First impression: Paasche Talon Airbrush review

The Talon looks great, Feels right

The Paasche Talon airbrush has a nice chrome plated finish and an anodized aluminum handle in a nice brushed brass color. Overall, I think the Paashe Talon airbrush looks beautiful.

The Paasche talon Airbrush feels the right weight too. At first, I was slightly worried when I first saw the size of the cup. But the fact that the handle is made of light aluminium and has a large cutout really help reduce the weight of the Talon and makes the Paasche Talon Airbrush a well balanced airbrush.

The trigger action feels nice and confortable. This is no doubt helped by the fact that the hardened stainless steel needles are highly polished. Something you wont find on cheap Chinese airbrush.

Note that the Paasche parts are compatible across the entire Talon line including the Vision and Raptor range. Therefore you could use Paasche’s smallest .2mm head to get even smaller lines.

Some people find the Talon’s trigger a bit uncomfortable. You could replace the Talon’s trigger with Vision’s trigger (TGX-106). It has a slopped trigger that has ridges at the top.

If you feel that the cup is too big, you could get a smaller cup from the Paasche Raptor or Vision line.

This is really a huge advantage if you have several Paasche Airbrush models.

Cutaway handle & Needle stop

The cut-out on the handle allows you to access the needle chuck. When or if the brush gets clogged up, you are able to pull the needle back and flush without having to remove the handle. You can also change the tension of the trigger. Nice feature.

In addition, the Paasche Talon airbrush has a needle stop at the rear of the brush. Use that to limit the amount of paint that goes through the nozzle. This is great to avoid accidental overspray that could end up in spidering or unwanted blotches on the surface your paintwork.

Paasche Talon airbrush Review

Large .4oz cup

The Paasche Talon Airbrush has a large 0.4oz (11.8ml) cup. The cup is emblazoned with a stunning engraved Eagle. (note that the claws of a bald eagle, and other birds of prey are called talon). It really gives the Paasche Talon Airbrush a superb look. In addition, the Paasche Talon airbrush is shipped also with an aluminium lid that fits well.Handy to avoid any spillage while airbrushing.

Three needle\tip size

The needle is protected by a crown type cap, which may be removed if you need to get in closer.

Depending which combos option you purchase, the Paasche talon airbrush comes with 3 needle/nozzle size (.25mm, .38mm & .66mm heads).

I really like the fact that the three the Paasche Talon Airbrush uses a straight forward system of lines to differentiate between needle / nozzle / crown cap sizes:

A single line is visible on the 0.25mm, 2 lines are visible on the 0.38mm and 3 lines are showing on the 0.66mm. This will help you match them up. I find that great.

Paasche Talon airbrush Review

The nozzles of the Paasche Talon airbrush are rather big compared to the ones from other airbrush I have. As a result, this will greatly decrease the chance of loosing them when they drop on the floor.

The one thing I don t like is that this airbrush comes with its own proprietary thread size for connecting to the air hose. That 1/8″BPS Adapter (Paasche Airbrush to 1/8BPS Hose) is included if you buy the TG-3AS set.

Overall my first impression is very positive. The Paasche Talon Airbrush looks and feel like solid quality build. Very for the price!

Paasche Talon Airbrush review: Performance

The .25 needle\tip will allow to spray really thin hair like lines. Perfect for fine details work. Of course you need to thin you paint properly for that. 20-30 PSI would be the best for detail spraying.

The .38mm needle\nozzle is the head size that come with the Talon when you buy it on its own.. Good for most spraying, will give you more coverage. The .38 tip is able to handle ticker paint and also you will still be able to spray some thin lines. Excellent size for general use airbrush.

The .66 tip can be used with much thicker acrylic paint or with metallics. With this needle\nozzle size, the large cup can be emptied in a matter of seconds. Great for large spray application like automotive, priming, painting t-shirt etc…

If you buy either he TG-3AS Set set or the TG-3WC Set , they come along with a fan aircap that you can use with the .66 tip. This will allow you to spray lines up to 3 inches wide. It will spray a bit like a mini spray gun. I used that a lot when I am priming terrains. The fan aircap needs 20 PSI or more, so be aware that some small compressors may not be strong enough. Again, this is great if you are planing to spray on large area.

The Paasche Talon airbrush is very well made, and the parts are easily disassembled for cleaning. Using nylon brush cleaner, I found the cleaning process straight forward.Needles are stainless steel & the needle packing is PTFE. You can use any type of airbrush cleaner really.

Conclusion for Paasche Talon Airbrush Review:

The Paasche Talon is a fantastic airbrush nicely put together at a very reasonable cost. The set with three needles\nozzles plus the fan aircap, wrenches and air hose (with adapter) comes at less than 120$.

And it is made in the USA. Replacement parts are easy to get , and cheaper than Iwata parts. It’s great that all the parts are compatible with the other Paashe line like Raptor and Vision.

The Paasche Talon airbrush as very versatile and is capable of doing a wide range of spray patterns with the three different head size (0.25, .28, .38)

The Paasche Talon feels really like a solid airbrush. The balance is right in your hand, it can be compared a bit like the Badger Patriot 105 feels in your hand.

I definitely recommend this airbrush, you won’t be disappointed.

Iwata Eclipse HP CS Review: First impression

The Iwata-Medea Eclipse HP CS comes in a box containing the brush itself, a tube of Iwata Super Lube and a spanner. The Spanner will be used the take off the nozzle cap.

The brush itself feels quite heavy in the hands, a good weight though and I find it very well balanced overall. I personally like to feel some weight in my hand when I am airbrushing.

As stated above the Airbrush comes with a 0.35 mm nozzle that will allow you to spray very fine details. Of course you also have the choice to go for the bigger .50 nozzle. Might be an easier choice for beginner as thinning won’t be as critical as with the 0.35 nozzle.

The cup is a rather large 1/3 oz sized cup that comes with a lid that will help stopping the paint coming out of it when spraying. Quite useful.

Iwata Eclipse Review: Cleaning and maintenance

Most issues you are going to come across when airbrushing will come from not cleaning the airbrush properly or not assembling the airbrush, especially the needle, properly after the cleaning process. But thankfully, taking apart the Iwata-Medea Eclipse HP CS is very easy.

All you need to do is first unscrew the handle (19) from the body and loosen the needle chucking nut (18). Then you will be able to pull away the needle (17). You will be able the clean the needle with the appropriate cleaner. Over all, it comes apart quite easily really.

Another part, along with the cup, that you will need to keep clean is the nozzle. For that you just need to unscrew the head cap (3). You should then have access to the nozzle.

Needle are made from hardened stainless steel that will last ages but their fine tip can be subject to physical damage. Make sure to straighten a bent needle before putting it through the nozzle or you will damage the nozzle. Nozzle are fragile part that can be expensive to replace.

Iwata Eclipse HP CS Review:Performance and closing comments

The Iwata Eclipse HP CS is really a lifetime airbrush. It is a high quality product like all the IWATA airbrushes.  As I mention earlier, it has a nice weight in your hand, and for me, it feels just right. It will last you  for years, and if you have an issue with a part, you can order it from IWATA without problem (see parts list just above).

As I said in my introduction, the Iwata Eclipse HP CS comes with a 0.35mm needle. You will get really nice fine lines with this airbrush with this configuration, allowing you to paint nice detailed work. But you will be also able to cover large area very quickly with Iwata-Medea Eclipse HP CS. The Iwata Eclipse HP CS is a real workhorse, great for base-coating, varnish, shading or highlighting work.

I love the cut-away handle feature that will allow you to clear any clogs quickly.

There is also the possibility to have an optional set up with a .5mm configuration which would be, I think, perfect combination for a beginner.

Either way, I would highly recommend the Iwata Eclipse HP CS, it is really a great airbrush. It  will last you for ages and you will be able to use for all sort of projects.

First impression:Badger Krome Review

Renegade Krome Box 2

The Badger Renegade Krome comes in a very nice black and aluminium storage case with reinforced steel corners.  As I already mention in my other Badger Airbrush reviews, I like having boxes to store my Airbrushes and keep my working area tidy.

The Badger Renegade Krome comes 3/8-ounce mounted colour cup, a spare needle and nozzle. It comes with a protective rubber cap for the needle and a metal lid for the cup this time rather than the plastic one that comes with the Badger Patriot 105 for instance.

In the box you can also find a hose adapter to fit with a standard 1/4″ hose and spray regulators for the two types of needle.

The Badger Renegade looks very nice with its finished (as opposed to the Renegade Velocity gunmetal finished), all parts are well manufactured, and it feels very comfortable and also well balanced in hands.

Cleaning and maintenance:

Careful cleaning and maintenance of your airbrush is essential if it is to continue to work effectively. I will always recommend to dismantle and lubricate your airbrush before the first use.

Krome Parts List

The Renegade Krome has a cut out handle on the back that will allow you to remove the needle without taking the handle off. I like this feature from the Badger Airbrush that make the cleaning and the maintaining much easier, saving you some precious time that you will be using to work on your project instead!

I really feel that taking apart  the badger Renegade Krome won’t cause you any trouble. All the airbrush’s parts are just to be finger tight to work to perfection. No need of plier or any other tool.

Please take extra attention though while dismantling/amassing the Airbrush not to lose the tiny little spout /paint tip. The part is very tiny and can easily be lost.

Badger Renegade Krome ideal for detailed work:

The extra fine needle will allow you to produce very fine lines, as thin as an hair all the way down to 1/1000ths of an inch! If you blend your paint property, the Badger Renegade Krome will produce very thin lines. Ideal for detailed work or for weathering if you are into model painting.

The Badger Renegade Krome has a needle limiter with graduate markings collar with a set screw that will allow you to adjust the needle position by tightening or untightening it. You won’t need to worry about pulling the trigger back too far with this feature.

The Badger Renegade Krome Airbrush performs realy like the original Renegade Airbrush as far as the spraying capabilities, which is superb really. If you are looking for an airbrush that will allow you to spray some great details, I can only recommend this airbrush id for you.

This is an excellent airbrush

Yet another great Airbrush from the Badger Company. I have personally own a Renegade Velocity for many years and I must say that I could not be happier with it. I was really curious to see how the Krome could possibly surpassed it. The answer is that Badger has managed to create an airbrush at a very affordable price that has managed to keep all the Velocity strong points, but also have managed to take into consideration user’s feedback to improve the airbrush even further, especially with the new trigger system.
Overall, I am particularly happy with this badger Krome Airbrush and I can only highly recommend it to you.
